Blackhawks v. Red Wings and Why You Should Care

Booga booga booga. This is the sound we make when the opposing team is dangerously close to scoring a goal. Say it all together, fast. “Boogaboogabooga.” What you are hearing is the sound of ancient voodoo incantations. It’s hockey night in Chicago and I’ve got a Zamboni full of boogas to help our Blackhawks triumph against the Detroit Red Wings.

-- -- --

Here’s the situ: The Detroit Red Wings, a hockey team comprised of communist-jihadists, need to go down in smoking flames. Nothing personal, but those old-ish men with few teeth have been rubbing their nether regions on the coveted Stanley Cup and leaving a stain! It is time to stage an intervention with their case worker. Further, the local currency in Detroit is sopping with bailout sweat-money stolen from downtrodden working men and women. Have they no decency?

The Chicago Blackhawks are a young, earnest team that never got a favor from anyone. They went to bed hungry plenty of times, but they refused to give up and go back to Thunder Bay. These skillful, well-mannered Canadian kids are doing everything in their power to make Chicago’s United States a better place for hockey and humanity. We should encourage them at every opportunity. If the Blackhawks fail, America fails, too.

If you cannot booga with me at least give us the chance to find common ground. Ask yourself this: Do you love a comeback story or not?

We have the power to booga. Pick the booga.

In THIS Mojopost we learn how under-represented hockey is as an American sporting event. Or at least I learned it, because it made me think back to Saturday afternoons when I was a kid in the 1960's when Dad and I would watch ABC's Wide World of Sports. Dad would teach me how to drink whiskey and cuss, and he'd teach me all about the various sports we'd watch which included... well EVERYTHING! Or at least we THOUGHT it was everything: Football, baseball, basketball, softball (fast pitch AND slow pitch), tennis, racketball, golf, cricket, polo, water polo, diving, swimming, pole vaulting, hurdles, shot put, discus, high jump, javelin, weightlifting, track -- dashes, distance, marathon, AND relay -- auto racing, funny cars, demolition derby, skiing, taboggen(?), figure skating, roller skating, fencing, volley ball, surfing, ping pong, motorcycle racing, bike racing, log rolling, whiffle ball, kick the can. But NO hockey!!

Also, this was in Mississippi where we loves us some blues, so THIS Mojopost takes us back to a simpler time when we were all kids growing up in the deep south, which most people here did not do. Probably only me.

How do I rate a post like this? One that is about something I don't know anything about? Are you kidding me?! TEN!!!

Here's the thing: I started liking hockey last year. It's CRAYZAY. Did you know about the fist fighting?

Speaking of the blues, do you ever make up pretend blues songs?

"Bah DAAH dah DAH
Can't wash my clothes
Bah DAAH dah dah
The quarter machine is broke
Bah DAHH dah DAH
Gonna have to wear a poncho
Bah DAAH dah DAH
To meet with my kinfolk..."

Go Hawks, Go.

I celebrated my 10th Birthday at Chicago Stadium with my dad. Bobby Hull scored that night. They were playing the Wings so I also saw Gordie Howe play.

I was brought up loving hockey. Dad bought my sisters and I our own sticks when I was about 8. And then he flooded the backyard and made us our own rink.

Booga booga booga.

Mojo,
My girlfriend is in love with the Detroit Red Wings. Therefore, I was rooting for them. I never knew I was supporting communism.
I hope we can still be friends.
Hugs,

She went to the crossroads, fell down on her knees
She went to the crossroads, fell down on her knees
Asked the Lord above, have mercy now,
Save the Blackhawks if you please

Standin' at the crossroads, tried to flag a ride
Whee-hee, She tried to flag a ride
Didn't nobody not know her, Blackhawks on her side.

Standin' at the crossroads, risin' sun goin' down
Standin' at the crossroads baby, the risin' sun goin' down
She believes in her soul now, po' Red Wings is sinkin' down.........

Sweet Home Chicago was also the last song Stevie Ray Vaughan ever played at the Alpine Valley concert. It was an encore performance instigated by Eric Clapton. There are audio recordings of this but better is the tribute from the Summer of 2007 at Crossroads Guitar Festival.

Everyone that loves the blues or Chicago should own a copy of the PBS Great Performances DVD of this event.

So it looks like someone bootlegged a copy of the Sweet Home Chicago from that concert on YouTube.

What makes it special, this tribute to Stevie was played on Chicago soil, the same people that were in his last encore, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Most of all Buddy Guy. Also there playing 6 string in be background, ironically is Jimmie Vaughan, though not related to Stevie.

A memorial fit for a king, which he was.

If this doesn't lift your spirits, and send shivers down your spine on Buddy Guys' guitar licks, you need to Blues Boarded. Where you are tied to a board and blues is played at 120 decibels until you admit it's the great music ever played, and Chicago's it's home.

Play and Enjoy......

If this fails to work converting you, the next step is a chemical audio visual input.

Still strapped to the Blues Board, you are feed mushrooms, and forced to listen to a non stop endless loop of Stevie Ray Vaughan - Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)

You will not be expected to admit to anything if you can even talk after this. But the transformation will show in your eyes.

Oh, what the heck. I'll root for the Blackhawks! I live closer to Chicago than Detroit now.

Mojopo said...

Minnie - OH noes, not the octopus! I was just reading about those today. It is a disgusting Red Wings habit.

The Hawks lost in overtime, but they'll be back on Friday. No probs.

Papa... Damn, that was INSPIRED. I love it!

Not in front of Mojo!

Absolutely right. There is no cross roads in Illinois.

Eric Clapton also thinks Blues started in Chicago.

But before the days of Motown, in Detriot, there was in fact Blues in Chicago.

The rebirth of Blues in the 1960's, much of it was based in Chicago.

Another thing is could you blame the blues singers from leaving Mississippi for Chicago in that era?

Yeah, Blind Lemon and Robert were dead before Chicago even had blue paint.

anony tu said...

Papa, no, I wouldn't blame ANYBODY for leaving Mississippi. Heck, I left Mississippi. Growing up, the one dream all us kids had in common was getting the hell outtta Mississippi.
